Installation & Upkeep
Washer and Dryer Installation Across South Bend
A new washer that walks across the floor on spin, or a dryer wired with the wrong cord, usually traces back to installation. We set laundry pairs up to run quietly and safely.

Washer and dryer installation in South Bend means removing shipping bolts, leveling the washer, fitting new fill hoses and securing the drain hose. For the dryer we fit the right three- or four-wire cord or a new gas connector, connect a short metal vent and test both machines.
The problem
Washer & Dryer Installation in South Bend: What Usually Goes Wrong
Front-load washers shake a floor when the transport bolts are left in or one foot isn't carrying weight. Top-loaders can siphon when the drain hose is pushed too far into the standpipe. Dryers lose heat and collect lint on a long, crushed foil duct. We install every pair with those failures in mind.
We hook up gas and electric dryers alike. Gas models get a new flex connector and a leak test with solution at every joint. On electric models the cord has to suit the receptacle, which is where most electric dryer installs go wrong. We check the outlet before choosing a cord.

What Affects the Cost to Hook Up a Washer and Dryer
Our cost sources publish no installation range, so here are the factors that set how much work is involved.
Gas or electric dryer
Gas dryers need a new flex connector and a leak test. Electric dryers need the right cord and a check of the receptacle and terminal block.
Stacking or pedestals
Stacking kits and pedestals add parts, lifting and extra leveling compared with setting two machines side by side on the floor.
Vent run condition
A short metal run connects quickly. A long or crushed run, or an exterior hood that won't open, adds work first.
Location in the house
Basement stairs, a second-floor closet or a tight alcove take more care moving the new pair in and the old pair out.
Washer Hookup and Leveling
We remove the shipping bolts from the back of the drum and leave them with you for any future move. Hot and cold fill hoses are new, with their rubber washers seated and tightened enough to seal without stripping threads. The drain hose goes into the standpipe at the right depth and is secured so it can't pop out mid-cycle. Then we adjust each foot until the washer doesn't rock, lock the feet with their nuts and run a full spin.
Electric Dryer Cord: 3-Wire or 4-Wire
Newer homes have four-slot dryer receptacles, while many older homes still have three-slot ones. Most electric dryers ship without a cord, so the cord has to suit your outlet, and the ground strap on the terminal block is set to agree: tied to neutral for three-wire, removed for four-wire with the green wire to the cabinet. Getting this wrong can leave the metal cabinet energized, so we always check the receptacle and its wiring before choosing which cord to fit.

Stacking Kits
Most front-load pairs from the same brand stack with a kit made for those models. We lift the dryer carefully onto the washer, fasten the kit to both cabinets, and check that the dryer door and controls are within your reach. Stacking moves the dryer's vent connection much higher on the wall, so we confirm the duct still reaches without stretching or crushing. The washer is leveled first, since everything stacked above it follows its level and magnifies any rocking.
Pedestal Installation
Pedestals raise front-load machines so you aren't bending to load them, and many include a storage drawer. They have to be the pedestal made specifically for your washer and dryer models. We fasten each machine to its pedestal, level the pedestal on the floor, then check the machine on top. Raised machines magnify any rocking or walking during spin, so we take extra care with the feet and test a full high-speed spin with a load of towels before we leave.

Why This Repair Looks Different in South Bend
South Bend's median home was built in 1955, and older homes are where we find three-slot dryer outlets, worn standpipes and long vent runs. Winter matters too: the city averages 64.5 inches of snow a year, and heavy snow off Lake Michigan can bury a low exterior vent hood, so we confirm the hood opens freely and sits clear of drifts.
Step by step
How We Set Up a New Laundry Pair
Check the utilities
We look at the water valves, standpipe, dryer receptacle or gas shutoff and vent opening, and flag anything needing correction.
Prep the machines
Shipping bolts come out, the dryer gets its cord or gas connector, and stacking kits or pedestals are fastened on.
Connect and level
Fill hoses, drain hose, power and vent are connected, then each machine is leveled and its feet locked so it can't walk.
Test both machines
The washer runs a fill, drain and full spin while we watch for leaks. The dryer runs on heat while we check airflow outside.

FAQ
Washer & Dryer Installation Questions From South Bend Homeowners
It depends on your outlet. Three slots take a three-wire cord with the ground strap in place; four slots take a four-wire cord with the strap removed. Adapters aren't a safe fix. We check the outlet and fit the correct cord.
On a new washer, the usual cause is shipping bolts left in the back. Next is an unlevel machine with one foot not carrying weight; pedestals and springy floors make both worse. We pull the bolts, level all four feet and test a spin.
We advise against it. Thin foil and vinyl ducts crush behind a dryer, trap lint and slow drying. A short metal transition duct with clamped joints keeps air moving, and we check that the exterior hood opens when the dryer runs.
Only if both are front-load models built to stack and you use the kit listed for that pair. Most top-load washers can't carry a dryer. Tell us both model numbers when you call and we'll confirm a kit exists first.
Braided stainless hoses resist bursting better than plain rubber, and they're what we fit on most installs. Either type should be replaced every few years, and we never reuse old hoses on a new machine. We leave a little slack so the hoses don't strain.
